Bradley L. Shaffer, CPA, began his accounting career in his birth state of New Mexico before moving to Sitka in 1977. Mr. Shaffer worked briefly for Alaska Lumber & Pulp Company before starting his own accounting and income tax business in 1979. Mr. Shaffer was in a partnership with others for seventeen years until 2007 when the current firm was established.
Mr. Shaffer has been involved in numerous social, civic, and professional organizations during the past three decades. He served as a member of the State of Alaska Department of Fish. As well as the Game Local Advisory Board and was president of Mt. Verstovia Building Corporation.
Mr. Shaffer graduated with honors from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants.
After varied professional experiences in the education and human services field, Patti MacPike has found herself entertained daily by the challenges and changes that occur with the field of income tax preparation. Her emphasis over the past few years has been helping clients understand the implications of the Affordable Care Act and how that impacts small self-employed individuals specifically in Alaska where health care costs are the highest in the nation.
After having taken accounting and income tax classes at the University of Alaska Southeast, she successfully passed the Enrolled Agent exam in 2015. Her designation by the IRS as an Enrolled Agent allows her to represent clients before the IRS to handle their tax matters.
Patti also holds a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education from Sheldon Jackson College.
She can be seen on the trails everyday with her four legged family members enjoying all the wonders, weather and wildlife Southeast Alaska has to offer.
Karen was born in Medford, Oregon, but was raised in Sitka. She studied business and psychology at Southern Oregon State for two years before transferring to the PTI (Paramedic Training Institute of Portland) in 1990. In addition, after becoming an EMT she started a career in Search and Rescue (SAR).
Karen has been a part of Sitka Fire Department as an EMT 3 for 34 years and counting. Karen is currently acting as deputy IMT Lieutenant with Sitka Mountain Rescue and is a SAR K-9 Training Officer and handler. When she's not not at the front desk in the office you can find her spending time with her family or out enjoying the outdoors.
Kayla has worked in the accounting field for over eight years. She found her first accounting job as a receptionist at a small firm in Anchorage and realized how fascinated she was with this field. After Kayla’s first tax season she moved down to Sitka to work for Shaffer & CO CPA’s. Since then she’s lived in San Diego and Portland where she works part time with multiple accounting firms. She’s grown her career starting as a receptionist and now doing tax preparation for companies and individuals in multiple states. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys being out in nature, spending her summers camping, backpacking and running.
Joy has a passion for helping individuals or neighbors in the community. She has years of experiences in banking and financial services department. She thrives to gain her knowledge in preparing taxes and other accounting duties.
She is a proud Sitka High School graduate. Joy holds a Bookkeeping Certificate from Penn Foster Career School. She also gained her Associate Degree in Applied Science, Business Administration and Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Accounting from the University of Alaska Southeast while working and raising her two children with her husband. In her free time, she loves to dance and spend time/travel with her loved ones.
Katrina started working in the accounting field her first year at college in 2005 and has been enjoying numbers ever since. She attended Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and received her BBA in Accounting in 2008 and earned her Masters in Accountancy in 2010.
Her industry experience includes construction, entertainment, legal, commercial rentals, software development and charter fishing. Katrina even spent a year teaching introductory accounting courses at a private college. Most recently she added the private sector and has spent the last 3 years working through season as a tax preparer on both individual and corporate returns.
When Katrina is not at a computer working, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family by the water or out exploring trails. She loves painting, cooking and baking treats with her girls.
